The Geoeconomic Importance of the Water Sector on the Regional Development of Bulgaria

This article is devoted to the geo-economic assessment of the state of the water sector in Bulgaria. The introductory part presents the problems of the water sector. The main problems of the water sector from the point of view of improvement of the, meso and micro level are presented in the exposition. Climate problems and their impact on available water resources have been analyzed. An analysis of the state of the water infrastructure at the level of planning regions and outlining the challenge of the settlements in the country was made. It concludes with recommendations and measures to address the emerging regional development problems posed by the state of the water sector.
