Detailed Analysis of Software Practitioners’ Attitude towards Software Process Improvement

One of the major prerequisites for success of software process improvement (SPI) initiatives is the attitude of the people involved. This paper presents fmdings from interviews with software practitioners who share knowledge and ideas about SPl, as well as observations and impressions gained through participation in SPI proj ects. According to the sample ofrespondents which is comprised of people of various nationalities, the general population of software practitioners has а positive attitude towards SPI. Despite this finding, there will always Ье challenges in the implementation of SPI, but once known, these difficulties can Ье easily managed. Furthermore, the study found that there is а set of criteria which may Ье applied in the establishment of а successful SPI team.. One of these criteria is the motivation of staff which can Ье influenced Ьу а variety of factors. The results of this study will Ье used to further investigate people’s reaction towards SPI.
